Setting up FirstStage
- Register to create a license and get access to the download.
- Locate the downloaded file and run the FirstStage Setup Wizard.
NB - Windows may try to prevent you installing the software as Moviestorm Limited is not currently a known publisher. By clicking More Info you can complete the install. - When setup has finished, the FirstStage Patcher will start and download the bulk of the application.
NB - At the end of the wizard setup, with the Launch FirstStage checkbox checked, click Finish to start the FirstStage Patcher. This will also need confirmation that you are happy to allow the software to make changes to your device in order to run.
Depending upon your bandwidth, the download could take quite a time as it will be downloading all the content, so we suggest you put the kettle on. - When the update has finished, FirstStage will launch.
- Log in with the username and password credentials provided in your welcome email.
NB - When first launched, FirstStage may appear to stall for short periods as it downloads asset bundles. - Set up your network to support collaboration
NB - FirstStage comes into it’s own for teams working remotely, and we would also like the opportunity to meet and support you on set at times, so it is worth setting up your network now. Please see Network Settings below. - You are now ready to create a project and start a scene!
Set up your Network settings
FirstStage needs internet access to work as scenes and assets are stored in a cloud repository.
For collaborative working you also need to connect with other users in the same scene for voice comms and scene updates.
FirstStage supports NAT punchthrough on suitable routers but this is usually not possible with corporate networks. If so, set up port forwarding on your router as follows:
Port Protocol Target
12000 TCP & UDP Computer running FirstStage
5889 TCP & UDP Computer running FirstStage
Setting up SteamVR
FirstStage requires SteamVR to run. You can register for an account here.
SteamVR is usually installed when you first set up your Vive or Index. However if you move to a separate computer, you will also need to install Steam on that as well. You can get it here.
Setting up the Rokoko Smartsuit
FirstStage supports the Rokoko Electronics Smartsuit for high quality motion capture.
- Install the Rokoko Studio application
Make sure the Smartsuit is working in Studio first. - Enable Forward data
From the Settings menu (gear icon, top left of Studio), go to Data streaming and enable Forward data, and set Forward port to 14043.
NB - If Studio and FirstStage are running on different computers, set the Forward IP to that of the computer running FirstStage.
You may also need to disable Windows Firewall to allow Studio and FirstStage to communicate.
